Grievance Policy & Equity Commitment

Soulage Collective 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training

Soulage Collective is committed to fostering a learning environment grounded in respect, integrity, and open communication. This Grievance Policy exists to provide trainees with a clear, fair process for raising concerns related to the training experience.

Purpose

This policy outlines the steps for addressing grievances related to:

  • Training content or curriculum delivery

  • Instructor or staff conduct

  • Interpersonal conflicts within the training cohort

  • Violations of the Code of Conduct

  • Accessibility, equity, or inclusion concerns

All grievances will be taken seriously and addressed in a timely and respectful manner.

Informal Resolution (Encouraged First Step)

When appropriate, trainees are encouraged to first address concerns through direct and respectful communication, which may include:

  • Speaking privately with the instructor involved

  • Contacting the Lead Trainer

  • Requesting clarification or support

Many concerns can be resolved through open dialogue and mutual understanding.

Formal Grievance Process

If a concern cannot be resolved informally, trainees may submit a formal grievance.

Step 1: Written Submission

  • Grievances must be submitted in writing via email.

  • The submission should include:

    • Trainee’s name

    • Description of the concern

    • Dates, individuals involved, and any relevant context

    • Desired outcome, if applicable

Step 2: Review & Acknowledgment

  • The grievance will be acknowledged within 7 business days.

  • The Lead Trainer or designated program administrator will review the submission.

Step 3: Investigation & Response

  • Soulage Collective may gather additional information from relevant parties.

  • A response or proposed resolution will be provided within 14 business days, whenever possible.

  • All parties will be treated with respect and confidentiality to the greatest extent possible.

Resolution & Outcomes

Possible outcomes may include:

  • Mediation or facilitated conversation

  • Curriculum clarification or adjustment

  • Behavioral expectations or corrective action

  • Referral to additional resources

  • In rare cases, dismissal from the program in accordance with the Code of Conduct

Soulage Collective reserves the right to determine appropriate action based on the nature of the grievance.

Non-Retaliation Statement

Retaliation against any trainee who raises a concern or submits a grievance is strictly prohibited. Concerns raised in good faith will not impact a trainee’s standing, participation, or certification eligibility.

Equity & Inclusion Acknowledgment

Soulage Collective 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training

Soulage Collective acknowledges that Yoga is a living tradition with roots in South Asia and a history that has been shaped, adapted, and sometimes misrepresented in Western contexts. We recognize the responsibility that comes with teaching Yoga and are committed to practicing and sharing it with integrity, respect, and care.

Our Commitment

We are committed to:

  • Honoring the cultural roots and philosophical foundations of Yoga

  • Creating a learning environment that is welcoming, inclusive, and respectful of all bodies, identities, and lived experiences

  • Offering accessible options in movement, meditation, and learning modalities

  • Using language that is mindful, inclusive, and trauma-aware

  • Encouraging personal responsibility, self-reflection, and continued education around equity and ethics

Accessibility & Inclusion in Practice

Within the training, we strive to:

  • Normalize the use of props, modifications, chairs, and alternative shapes

  • Acknowledge that bodies, nervous systems, and life experiences differ

  • Avoid one-size-fits-all approaches to teaching or practice

  • Encourage curiosity rather than judgment — of self and others

Ongoing Responsibility

Equity and inclusion are not fixed achievements but ongoing practices. We recognize that:

  • We will continue learning and evolving

  • Mistakes may occur, and accountability matters

  • Feedback is a valuable part of growth

Trainees are encouraged to engage with these values thoughtfully and to bring awareness of equity, access, and cultural respect into both their personal practice and future teaching.

Shared Responsibility

Participation in this training includes a shared commitment to:

  • Upholding dignity and respect within the learning space

  • Listening with openness

  • Engaging in dialogue with humility and care

  • Teaching Yoga in ways that honor its depth, lineage, and living context
